Lesiones no intencionales atendidas en el servicio de urgencias pediátrico del Hospital Provincial de Cabinda / Unintentional injuries treated in the pediatric emergency department of the Provincial Hospital of Cabinda Lesiones no intencionales atendidas en el servicio de urgencias pediátrico del Hospital Provincial de Cabinda / Unintentional injuries treated in the pediatric emergency department of the Provincial Hospital of CabindaObjetivo: describir, las características epidemiológicas que distinguen a los pacientes clasificados con accidentes o lesiones no intencionales atendidos en el Servicio de Urgencias Pediátrica del Hospital Provincial de Cabinda.Materiales y métodos: se realizó una investigación descriptiva y transversal, en una población de 320 enfermos diagnosticados bajo este rubro, atendidos en el Servicio de Urgencias Pediátrica del Hospital Provincial de Cabinda, Angola, desde enero de 2007 hasta septiembre de 2009. El tipo de lesión se agrupó según la X Clasificación Estadística Internacional Enfermedades y los Problemas Relacionados con la salud. Se analizaron las variables edad, sexo, tipo de lesión, sustancia tóxica ingerida y mes del año, se confeccionaron las tablas de contingencias y se gráfico a través del programa XLSTAT.Resultados: la principal morbilidad por tipo de accidentes concernió a las caídas (49,06%), penetración de cuerpos extraños (14,68%), envenenamientos (13,75%), transporte (9,06%) y quemaduras (5,62%). Predominó la edad de 5 a 10 años (53,12%), y el sexo masculino (60,31%). Los envenenamientos fueron más frecuentes entre las edades entre 5 y 10 años (77,72%) correspondiendo las sustancias ingeridas en mayores proporciones al petróleo (63,62%), medicamentos (6,81%), y componentes cáusticos (6,81%). La época de incremento de los accidentes fue desde junio hasta septiembre.Conclusiones: los tipos de accidentes representados por las caídas, penetración por cuerpos extraños, envenenamientos, transporte y quemaduras mostraron notable morbilidad en la población alcanzando el sexo masculino y la edad desde 5 hasta 10 años las mayores frecuencias, durante la estación se sequía, lo cual determina un problema de salud cardinal en la población pediátrica en Cabinda.  ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the epidemiological characteristics that distinguish patients classified with accidents or unintentional injuries treated in the Pediatric Emergency Department of the Provincial Hospital of Cabinda.Materials and methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out in a population of 320 patients diagnosed under this heading, treated in the Pediatric Emergency Department of the Provincial Hospital of Cabinda, Angola, from January 2007 to September 2009. The type of The lesion was grouped according to the X International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Health-Related Problems. The variables age, sex, type of injury, toxic substance ingested and month of the year were analyzed, contingency tables were prepared and plotted through the XLSTAT program.Results: the main morbidity by type of accidents involved falls (49.06%), penetration of foreign bodies (14.68%), poisonings (13.75%), transportation (9.06%) and burns (5 , 62%). The age of 5 to 10 years predominated (53.12%), and the male sex (60.31%). The poisonings were more frequent between the ages between 5 and 10 years (77.72%) corresponding to the substances ingested in greater proportions to the oil (63.62%), medicines (6.81%), and caustic components (6.81 %). The time of increase in accidents was from june to september. Conclusions: the types of accidents represented by falls, penetration by foreign bodies, poisonings, transport and burns showed remarkable morbidity in the population reaching the highest sex age and ages from 5 to 10 years, during the dry season, which determines a cardinal health problem in the pediatric population in Cabinda.
