Recidiva de Paludismo: Un riesgo epidemiológico en Cuba / Malaria Recurrence: An Epidemiological Risk in Cuba Recidiva de Paludismo: Un riesgo epidemiológico en Cuba / Malaria Recurrence: An Epidemiological Risk in Cuba El paludismo o malaria es la enfermedad parasitaria con la mayor mortalidad en el mundo. Las recaídas ocasionadas por Plasmodium vivax constituyen un peligro desde el punto de vista epidemiológico en países donde está erradicada la enfermedad. El objetivo del presente trabajo es presentar un caso clínico de malaria en un estudiante extranjero de la Filial de Ciencias Médicas “Lidia Doce Sánchez” de Sagua la Grande, provincia de Villa Clara. El estudiante de 25 años, de procedencia paquistaní, regresó de vacaciones de su país a Cuba en agosto de 2012 y 9 meses después comenzó con fiebre, decaimiento, cefalea y artralgia. Se le diagnosticó malaria recidivante por Plasmodium Vivax. Se le impuso tratamiento con cloroquina y primaquina y evolucionó favorablemente, recobrando su salud.Palabras clave: paludismo; vigilancia epidemiológica; enfermedades parasitarias.ABSTRACT Malaria or malaria is the parasitic disease with the highest mortality in the world. Relapses caused by Plasmodium vivax constitute an epidemiological danger in countries where the disease is eradicated. The objective of this paper is to present a clinical case of malaria in a foreign student of the Medical Sciences Branch “Lidia Doce Sánchez” of Sagua la Grande, province of Villa Clara. The 25-year-old student, of Pakistani origin, returned on vacation from his country to Cuba in August 2012 and 9 months later began with fever, decay, headache and arthralgia. He was diagnosed with recurrent malaria by Plasmodium Vivax. He was treated with chloroquine and primaquine and evolved favorably, regaining his health.Keywords: malaria; epidemiological surveillance; parasitic diseases.
