Caracterización de pacientes con infección del sitio quirúrgico Caracterización de pacientes con infección del sitio quirúrgicoIntroducción: una infección constituye la proliferación de suficientes bacterias en diferentes tejidos; se denomina infección del sitio quirúrgico a las que se originan como consecuencia de un acto quirúrgico.Objetivo: caracterizar a los pacientes con infección del sitio quirúrgico.Métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo transversal en pacientes con infección del sitio quirúrgico que fueron atendidos en el Hospital “Arnaldo Milián Castro” desde 2017 hasta 2018. La muestra fue de 242 pacientes.Resultados: la edad media fue de 55,96 y el sexo femenino representó el 54,5%. La herida quirúrgica limpia contaminada (44,2%) y la infección del sitio quirúrgico superficial (57%) fueron las más representadas. Un grupo considerable de pacientes reingresaron por una infección del sitio quirúrgico (41,3%). La mayoría de las infecciones de órganos y espacios estuvo antecedida por heridas quirúrgicas sucias. La mayor cantidad de infecciones del sitio quirúrgico ocurrieron en el tercer trimestre del año.Conclusiones: los pacientes entre 30 y 60 años, el sexo femenino, la herida quirúrgica limpia contaminada y la infección del sitio quirúrgico superficial fueron las más representadas. Un grupo considerable de pacientes reingresaron por una infección del sitio quirúrgico. La mayoría de las infecciones de órganos y espacios estuvo antecedida por heridas quirúrgicas sucias. La mayor cantidad de infecciones del sitio quirúrgico ocurrieron en el tercer trimestre del año.
