Comportamiento clínico epidemiológico de los traumatismos dentales en escuelas urbanas de San Juan y MartínezComportamiento clínico epidemiológico de los traumatismos dentales en escuelas urbanas de San Juan y MartínezIntroducción: los traumatismos bucodentales son lesiones que se producen en los dientes, hueso y demás tejidos de sostén, como consecuencia de un impacto físico contra   los mismos;  la conservación de los tejidos dentarios constituye el objetivo primordial  en este caso.Objetivo: caracterizar el comportamiento clínico y epidemiológico de los traumatismos dentarios en escuelas urbanas.Material y Método: se realizó una investigación descriptiva y transversal en escuelas urbanas del municipio de San Juan y Martínez durante el año 2010, el universo estuvo constituido por 1772 pacientes, cuyas edades estaban comprendidas entre 7 y 14 años, se seleccionó una muestra de 82 alumnos portadores de trauma dental, utilizando un muestreo no probabilístico opinático. Se examinaron la totalidad de los niños y a los afectados por trauma se les aplicó un cuestionario valorando diferentes parámetros.Resultados: de acuerdo a las edades estudiadas (de 7 a 14 años) pudimos constatar que de 1772 pacientes examinados, se reportaron 82 con uno o más traumas dentales, representando el 4,63%, siendo más frecuentes en las edades de 10 y 14 años con un 7,26 y 5,42% respectivamente. Por otra parte el sexo masculino estuvo afectado en un 61%, con 50 pacientes, predominando sobre el femenino que aportó 32 casos para el 39%. Los varones de 10 y 14 años sufrieron la mayor cantidad de traumas con 13 y 11 respectivamente.Conclusiones: El comportamiento  clínico- epidemiológico de los traumatismos dentales en escuelas urbanas de San Juan y Martínez en Pinar del Río se caracteriza por manifestarse con mayor frecuencia en las edades entre 10 y 14 años, con predominio del sexo masculino, por presentar la  fractura no complicada de corona y la infracción como los traumas más frecuentes, así como el perfil propenso (vestibuloversión), la incompetencia bilabial y la práctica de deporte   los factores más predisponentes .
