SUMMARY

Education on healthy eating during childhood plays an important role in ensuring healthy growth among children. One of the methods of doing so is by using age-appropriate education tools/materials such as interactive book prepared and used in this study along with that. This cross-sectional, quasi-experimental study was to assess the effectiveness of interactive book in improving knowledge level on healthy diet among preschoolers in Bangi, Selangor area. A total of 116 subjects (aged 4-6 years) (60±10 months) were recruited (58 subject each for Intervention Group and Control Group) from five kindergartens in Bangi. A same set of questionnaires to test effectiveness was used for the assessment purpose and only Intervention Group was exposed to the interactive book. Knowledge level (score) for the Intervention Group were 25±5 for pre-test (before intervention) and 29±4 for both post-test I (right after intervention) and post-test II (one-week after intervention); while for Control Group were 26±4 for pre-test and 26±5 for post-test (one-week after pre-test). Significant increase in knowledge level (p<0.001) among tests was shown in Intervention Group and difference (p<0.001) compared with Control Group (p=0.077). Hence, this study proved interactive book’s effectiveness in improving knowledge level on healthy diet among preschoolers. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.17576/JSKM-2021-1902-10
