Teacher’s views about supporting learner autonomyÖgretmenlerin ögrenen özerkliginin desteklenmesine iliskin görüsleri

SUMMARY

Autonomy support provided by the teacher to students in the learning environment affects their intrinsic motivation and active participation in learning. For this reason, teachers to demonstrate autonomy supportive behaviors carry importance. This research aims to determine the primary and secondary school in-service teachers’ views of autonomy supportive behaviors. The teachers working in primary and secondary schools of Kütahya constitute the target population and 492 teachers were sampled from it for this study. Learner Autonomy Support Scale has been used as a data collection tool. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis techniques were used in the data analysis procedure. According to the findings, in general teachers perceive autonomy supporting behaviors necessary in the learning environment, yet, in their opinion these behaviors are being demonstrated most of the time. There is a statistically significant difference between the teachers’ views regarding the necessity of autonomy support and its demonstration. Opinions differ depending on gender, school type and fields. Teachers view on the necessity of autonomy support is at a higher level than their view on its demonstration. Therefore, teachers might be given in-service training with regard to demonstrate autonomy supportive behavior.ÖzetÖgretmenin ögrenme ortaminda ögrencilere saglayacagi özerklik destegi onlarin içsel olarak güdülenmelerini ve ögrenmeye etkin bir biçimde katilimlarini etkilemektedir.
