This volume contains the lectures presented at the workshop on "Equilibrium Problems with Side Constraints. Lagrangean Theory and Duality" held in Acireale (Catania in December 9-12 1994.

In this paper we underline the strict connection between the second-order necessary optimality conditions in nonsmooth optimization and the separation of two particular sets. Introducing two approximating second-order variational sets, we give an alternat... see more

In this paper we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of zeros for a nonlinear operator from a compact topological space into the topological dual of a real Banach space. Some applications are derived.

This paper deals with a general duality theory developed by means of separation techniquesand shows that particular kinds of Dual Variational Inequalities can be obtained as special cases. An important emphasis is put on the study of an asymmetric equilib... see more

The paper presents an equilibrium model in asymmetric multimodal transport networks with capacity constrains. It is shown that these networks may have no equilibrium flow pattern which satisfies the capacity constrains, but additional costs can be i... see more

An infinite-dimensional Quasi-Variational Inequality is considered, whose domain in expressed as intersection of the level sets of functionals having infinite-dimensional image. A proposal is made to handle it by means of Lagrange multipliers.

The aim of this paper is to investigate two concepts of approximate solutions to parametric variational inequalities in topological vector spaces for which the corresponding solution map is closed graph and/or lower semicontinuous and to apply the results... see more

After revisiting the well-known relationship with the minimax theory, some duality results for constrained extremum problems are related to variational inequalities. In particular, the connection with saddle point conditions and gap functions associated t... see more
In this paper we show how the "Wardrop Equilibrium Principle" must be modified when capacities for the paths of a network are introduced. Moreover we show that the equilibrium conditions can be still expressed in terms of a variational inequality.

In this note we compare different approaches for establishing solvability of nonlinear complementarity problems, quasi-variational inequalities, and quasi-equilibrium problems.

In this note we underline, once more, the relationships between necessary optimality conditions for constrained extremum problems and the variational inequalities in finite dimension spaces. All is done passing through the concept of variational principle... see more

The possibility of applying a Variational Inequality model to the study of computer networks is analysed. In particular it is shown how the concepts of duality and potential for a Variational Inequality naturally arise and are crucial in this analysis.

We report some recent topological minimax theorems pointing out some applications and conjectures.
