Capacidad de afrontamiento y calidad de vida de pacientes con epilepsia fármacorresistente tratados con lobectomía temporalCapacidad de afrontamiento y calidad de vida de pacientes con epilepsia fármacorresistente tratados con lobectomía temporalOBJETIVO: Caracterizar la capacidad de afrontamiento y la calidad de vida de pacientes con epilepsia fármacorresistente tratados con lobectomía temporal.MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y correlacional de 16 pacientes con epilepsia fármacorresistente, sometidos a lobectomía temporal en el Centro Internacional de Restauración Neurológica en el primer semestre de 2016. Se emplearon variables demográficas (edad, sexo, escolaridad y estado civil) y psicológicas (el autoconocimiento de la enfermedad, autoestima, asertividad, estilo de vida, estilos de afrontamiento y calidad de vida). Se aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada, el inventario de autoestima de Coopersmith, la escala de asertividad y el cuestionario de estilo de vida promotor de salud. Se utilizó la escala de calidad de vida QOLIE-31 y la escala de modos de afrontamiento de Lazarus. Se utilizó estadística no paramétrica, con nivel de significación p= 05.RESULTADOS: Del total de pacientes, 12 reportaron un adecuado autoconocimiento de su enfermedad. La asertividad se comportó en niveles medios en 9 pacientes y en valores medios altos en 4 pacientes. Se observó un 75 % de casos con un estilo de vida no favorable para su salud. Sin embargo, la mayoría obtuvo una media total de la calidad de vida de 83 ± 13 SD (valoración de buena calidad de vida). Se comprobaron diferencias en el estilo de vida, el autoconocimiento de la enfermedad y la calidad de vida en relación con el resultado de la lobectomía temporal.CONCLUSIONES: Predomina en los pacientes una capacidad de afrontamiento de riesgo para la salud, caracterizada por un estilo de vida no promotor de salud, con adecuados niveles de autoestima y asertividad, y un apropiado autoconocimiento de la enfermedad. Se constata un perfil heterogéneo en los estilos de afrontamiento y buena calidad de vida en los pacientes. El estilo de vida se relaciona positivamente con la calidad de vida, aspecto modulado por la persistencia o no de crisis epilépticas después de la lobectomía temporal.
