Palabras clave: maloclusión; atención primaria de salud; síndrome de clase I de Moyers.ABSTRACT Objective: to determine the prevalence of dentomaxillofacial anomalies corresponding to Primary Health Care and to characterize the selected schoolchildren according to the variables of interest. Materials and methods: a descriptive, observational and crosssectional study was carried out in schoolchildren from 6 to 12 years old, belonging to four primary schools in the health area of the “José Martí” Teaching Polyclinic of Santiago de Cuba, during the period from May 2015 to February 2016. The sample corresponded to 676 schoolchildren with dentomaxillofacial anomalies. The variables studied were age, sex, skin color, dentomaxillofacial anomalies of Primary Health Care and etiology. The data were obtained through clinical examination and interrogation in the field work and as a summary measure the percentage was used. Results: there is a high prevalence of anomalies in primary care in the children studied (64.6%). The most frequent was class I syndrome with vestibuloversion and diastema (40.4%), followed by simple anterior inverted occlusion (36.4%), the most affected sex was male (55.3%), that of Age of 6 years (28.6%) and children of mixed race (64.3%). The most frequent etiologic agents were deforming oral habits (42.5%).Conclusions: these entities are frequent in primary care, so the stomatologist must be trained for early diagnosis and timely treatment. Keywords: malocclusion; primary health care; Moyers class I syndrome.
