This study investigates how brand image relates to self-image and how brand consumption contributes to the construction of self. Most of the research on brand image refers to brand attitudes. Day (1970) considers attitudes "a central integrating feature” ... see more

A stationary problem of heat transfer in a rarefied gas confined between two coaxial cylinders is presented. The two cylinders are maintained at two different constant temperatures, so that a radial temperature gradient is created. The external cylinder i... see more

The numerical study of continuum-rarefied gas flows is of considerable interest because it can provide fundamental knowledge regarding flow physics. Recently, the nonlinear coupled constitutive method (NCCM) has been derived from the Boltzmann equation an... see more

After summarizing the present status of Rational Extended Thermodynamics (RET) of gases, which is an endeavor to generalize the Navier–Stokes and Fourier (NSF) theory of viscous heat-conducting fluids, we develop the molecular RET theory of rarefied... see more

Rarefication effects on jet impingement loads are studied by comparing recent new formulas at the collisionless flow limit and numerical simulations. The jet exit size is finite, and can be either planar or round. In the simulations, the jets have differe... see more

Palabras clave: Enfermedad renal poliquística, autosómico dominante.ABSTRACTRenal cell carcinoma is rarely found in the autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). The objective of this work is to present a case treated by progressive chronic renal failure in the course of ADPKD, whose patient suffers from severe complications, finding a tumor associated to ADPKD during the surgery. The surgery was performed in the service of urology at "Abel Santamaria Cuadrado" University Hospital in June 2009. The patient attended to the hospital presenting a hemorrhagic urinary and lumbar gravitational pain picture. The mucosae were hypocolored and wet. Cardiovascular system presented: cardiac sounds and tachycardia, cardiac rate: 110 x minute and BP: 190/110 mmHg. The patient was hospitalized and the treatment was indicated, the hematologic and radiographic studies showed: hematocrit (0, 40 L/L), blood glucose (4, 5 mmol-L), platelet counts (18 / 109 /L), creatinine (110 mmol/L). The electrocardiogram showed a sinus tachycardia and in the urinalysis a macroscopic hematuria was observed. Detecting in the abdominal echography an enlargement in the left kidney with multiple echolucid images and the right kidney was enlarged with echolucid images towards the superior pole with a deformity in the middle part and in the inferior pole due to an echogenic tumor of 140x100mm. The CAT scan showed: regular hypodense masses in left kidney as well as hypodense masses in the right kidney and a tumoral mass in its level. The right nephrectomy was performed confirming the diagnosis. The evolution was satisfactory and the patient was discharged from the hospital at 7 days after the surgical intervention.Key words: Polycystic kidney disease; autosomal dominant

Palabras Clave: Sarcoidosis, granuloma, oftalmopatías/complicaciones.ABSTRACTSarcoidosis is a multifactorial granulomatose disease that affects lymphatic ganglia, lungs, skin, eyes, liver, spleen and parotids.  It rarely affects central nervous system, heart, upper respiratory tract and bones. Ophthalmic-sarcoidosis complications are not frequently found in Pinar del Rio province, Cuba. Objective: To report the first case presented with sarcoidosis with ocular complications and treatment. Case: A 55 years-old male patient was admitted in the ICU ("Abel Santamaria Cuadrado" University Hospital) presenting a general syndrome and diagnosed as a carrier of Sarcoidosis with severe ophthalmic complications such as: bilateral athalamia, ocular hypotonia, absence of tears, keratitis, corneal unfold with degeneration of the inferior third of it, cataracts, posterior synechia and decrease of the bilateral visual acuteness. Due to the severity of the ocular conditions surgical measures were taken:  an intra-chamber elastic-viscous substance was applied to replace the ocular tone; using also artificial tears, systemic, topic and mydriatic steroids. Ocular morphology was protected to facilitate the treatment of cataracts and preserving the usefulness of vision with quality of life. Key words: Sarcoidosis, granuloma, eye diseases/complications.
