Introduction: Central corneal thickness (CCT) is a powerful predictor of primary open angle glaucoma. Individualized risk assessment is critical for early diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Objectives: To compare CCT and intraocular pressure in patients... see more

DeCS: GLAUCOMA DE ANGULO ABIERTO, HIPERTENSIÓN, RITMO CIRCADIANO. ABSTRACTTonometric Behavior, Nictameral Curve and Ophthalmic Examination were analyzed in healthy, hipertensive patients and in those suffering from glaucoma. A sample distributed in three groups of 150 outpatients from "Abel Santamaría Hospital" was studied during the year 1999. A complete ophthalmic examination was conducted, as well as the measurement of the ocular tension every three hours during 24 hours. The proportion of the nictameral curve was normal in the healthy group, suspecting glaucoma in the 4 % of the sample, the values of the intraocular tension and the variability in the hipertensive group were higher than in healthy patients, suspecting glaucoma in 24 % of the sample, the entity was diagnosed in 16 % of patients. DeCS: CIRCADIAN RHYTHM, GLAUCOMA, OPEN - ANGLE, HYPERTENSION.
