Insurgency Threat to National Security: The Role of Technical and Vocational Education

SUMMARY

This paper attempts to review the exclusivity of contemporary society that breeds insurgency and to determine its impact on the security and socio-economic development of the Nigeria. The paper discusses the concept of insecurity; causes of insurgency in a contemporary society, consequences of insecurity, and examples were drawn from Nigeria to illustrate the relationship. A further review of global counter-insurgency approaches was made for a deeper view of the Nigerian situation. The paper discusses the history and the significance of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a tool for job creation and counterinsurgency in contemporary Nigeria. Suggestions were finally proffered on how to enhance the performance of TVET.
