CHANGE IN LAND-USE AND LAND-COVER IN THE DISTRICT OF ATTÉCOUBÉ (CÔTE D'IVOIRE)

SUMMARY

The objective of this study is analyzing the land use pattern of Attécoubé in order to be aware of the evolution of his area. Attécoubé is a little sector in the city of Abidjan lying north of Plateau, downtown Abidjan. Between 1995 and 2010, significant demographic and land use changes have been noticed in Attécoubé from the analysis of SPOT digital images and aerial photographs.  The number of modern habitats and shacks rose by 18 and 3 percent, respectively. Owing to its affordable life conditions and its proximity to Plateau and the industrial zones of Yopougon and Treichville, Attécoubé has become a haven for low to middle income dwellers.
