Keep Them Engaged!: Using Self-Monitoring Checklists to Increase Assignment Completion

SUMMARY

With the current educational movement to include students with disabilities in general education settings, teachers across the nation need practical academic and behavior management interventions to help students with disabilities succeed. Self-monitoring is an evidence-based strategy for increasing students’ attention to task and improving academic proficiency. This action research project examined whether or not implementing a self-monitoring checklist among students with disabilities who exhibited challenging behaviors increased the students’ percentages of assignment completion.
