Marcelo Mirisola, between memory and exaggeration: an example of autofiction à la brésilienne

SUMMARY

Brazilian writer Marcelo Mirisola’s work is a good example of the so called «self-writing narrative». His two books O azul do filho morto, from 2002, and Charque, from 2011, show the constant drift between both the autobiographical and the fictional pacts that the author implicitly establishes with his readers. Using theoretical approaches related to autobiography and autofiction, we analyze Mirisola’s narrative, structural and thematic strategies, as well as his identification with both books’ narrators, with whom he shares, at least, his name.
