O Fenómeno Migratório em Portugal: Ensino e Investigação

SUMMARY

Abstract. Mobility has always been a reality in Portuguese society. The Portuguese who emigrated and settled around the world constitute a diaspora that reflects the presence of those who continue to openly and publicly identify themselves with and recall their origins, as well as transmit to their offspring the cultural heritage bequeathed to them. The manner in which the diaspora and its related migration have been projected publicly by the media as well as treated by diverse disciplines in academic environments that select it as an object of analysis, reveals the  importance of the place it occupies in the interests of society itself. Registering the memory of Portuguese migration leads to the elaboration of its history. To comprehend it is to be acquainted with the society itself and will naturally lead to the intensification of positive interaction and an open relationship, diminishing prejudices and hopefully reuniting the Portuguese. A look over the Portuguese reality allows an understanding of the evolution of the inclusion of migration in the framework of the public administration: How it has been regarded, both at the level of social policy and initiatives in the areas of Education and Research.
