The Pregnancy Experience in Crack Users and Their Influence in the Formation of Maternal-Fetal bond

SUMMARY

The mother-baby bond starts to be established during the gestational period through the pregnant investment with her unborn child. However when drugs are used during the pregnancy the relation may be compromised. The present work aimed to understand, through a qualitative research, the pregnancy experience by the crack users and their bond with the fetus. Three pregnant women, whose uses crack and others drugs, were interviewed in the Hospital Presidente Vargas, in Porto Alegre RS. The interviews were evaluated by content analysis of Bardin and for thematic categories interpretation, the psychoanalytic literature related to pregnancy and bond formations were used. The results point that the pregnant relation with the fetus starts in an ambivalent form, this because the pregnant may lost their baby´s guard; the drug occupies a privileged place in the mother’s psyche, making it difficult for her intended the baby a place in hers emotional universe; without the each other’s support the pregnants cannot become aware of the vulnerable situation that they are exposed to. The support network it is fundamental to intensify the pregnant’s bond and she may able to take care of her ‘s pregnancy.
