APPLICATION OF A STATISTICAL MODEL TO THE SIMULATION OF THE ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY OF GROUNDWATER: CASESE STUDY OF THE EX-AREA OF N'ZI-COMOÉ (CENTER-EAST OF IVORY COAST)

SUMMARY

It is very often found in the analysis sheets of the physical and chemical parameters of groundwater from drilling that some major ions such as potassium and sodium are not included. This fact induces the impossibility of establishing an ion balance for analyzing the validity of laboratory results, simulating electrical conductivity using methods involving all major ions, and so on. Then, the problem that this work raises is the following: Is it possible, from the major ions defining the hydrogeochemical facies of a given groundwater, therefore predominant, to determine the electrical conductivity of a water? On this basis, is it possible to specify the validity of the laboratory results from a simulated value of the electrical conductivity? The objective of this study is to develop a statistical model of linear regressions capable of simulating the electrical conductivity of groundwater from major predominant ions and defining the hydrogeochemical facies of the waters. The study area is theex-areaof N’zi-Comoé(Center-East ofIvory Coast). To achieve the objective, the methodological approach used is based on the calibration of the model and the evaluation of its performance based on numerical and graphical criteria. The main results showed that the developed and evaluated model is powerful and robust and is able to simulate the electrical conductivity of groundwaters with a good reliability. This model is at the junction of simplicity and performance compared to the existing electrical conductivity models.
