SUMMARY
Over the past decade corporate governance has received ample attention. Lately theprinciples of governance have been applied to other management disciplines, especiallyproject management. The evolution of the concept of project governance resulted invarious interpretations and applications of the term, causing confusion among academicsand practitioners in various industries. Especially for large capital projects, a formaldefinition of the term project governance, and agreement on the content of a projectgovernance model, have largely been neglected. This paper reports on exploratory work todefine the concept of governance for large capital projects. An international Delphi survey, involving credible practitioners and academics, was conducted to define the term projectgovernance better. The paper also introduces a framework for project governance.
