SUMMARY
Palavras-chave: análise de componentes principais; recursos hídricos; uso do solo Relationship between land use and water quality in the Itanhém river, between Medeiros Neto and Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia A B S T R A C TThe aim of this research were to characterize the temporal and spatial variability of water quality in a stretch of Itanhém river affected by urbanization and to evaluate the relationship between water quality and land use. Water samples were collected from august 2018 to july 2019 and in eight sections along the watercourse. In each sample the following parameters were determined: ORP (Oxidation and Reduction Potential), OD (Dissolved Oxygen), pH (Hydrogenionic Potential), salinity, temperature, conductivity, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and Thermotolerant Coliforms. After the analysis, it was found that the soils of the pasture type, mosaic of agriculture and forest formation presented higher coefficient of variation (CV%) in the eight points, and that the results for the indicators pH, OD and temperature presented greater precision, With (CV%) less than 21,84% and the variables flow rate of the collection day, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia and BOD showed great dispersion between the collection periods, Of the 19 main components evaluated, it was found that eight had a significant eigenvalue (> 0,7) and 11 (57,89%) were discarded due to their eigenvalue below 0,7, The first three main components were selected, accounting for 53,64% of the total data variation, Some evaluated components proved to be useful in conducting research involving water quality, while other variables have low relevance and may be disregarded in studies related to the theme. Keywords: principal component analysis; water resources; use of the soil.
