SUMMARY
The problem of flooding in urban areas is analyzed in this article from the perspective of social and human resilience. It emphasizes the strategies of populations living in risk areas to cope with flooding during rainy seasons. Using a mixed methodological approach based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis, this article also focuses on the vulnerable nature of the measures taken by populations to adapt to floods. These measures relate to strengthening the foundations of houses, the use of relatively strong building materials, the construction of pipes with worn tires and bags filled with sand, etc. They are conveniently used by the populations as reasons to stay in their risk zone, showing the difficulty of the dissuasive approach often used to resolve the problems linked to the maintenance of populations in the risk areas of Abidjan
