SUMMARY
O renovado interesse do governo brasileiro em países como a Guiana e o Suriname gerou uma série de ações bilaterais e multilaterais com vistas a expandir os laços na vizinhança da região da Amazônia brasileira, e buscando aprofundar a presença brasileira na fronteira norte com a América do Sul. Essas ações apontam para uma contribuição para a redução das assimetrias regionais na América do Sul. Por conseguinte, tornou-se necessário se entender como as relações Guiana-Brasil conseguiram superar o sentimento mútuo de distanciamento –que durante algum tempo atuou como um obstáculo- em prol de uma potencial parceria entre vizinhos.ABSTRACTThe renewed interest of the Brazilian government in countries like Guyana and Suriname has sparked a set of bilateral and multilateral actions that aim to expand networks in the neighborhood of Brazil's Amazon region, seeking to strengthen the Brazilian presence at the northern borders of South America. They envision a contribution to the reduction of regional asymmetries in South America.
