Bach Trumpet

SUMMARY

The author quotes from sources which he indicated the historical development of the trumpet, in particular of the so-called »Bach«-trumpet. He describes the acoustical and historical problems involed in performing on the old Clarino-trumpet. Moreover he quotes different, in part quite contradictory opinions on the quality of performance of the old clarino-trumpeters and different views on the tone – colour and dynamics of the old clarino-trumpet as compared with the later »Bach«-trumpet. After detailed examination of all the facts and judgements he arrives at certain conclusions which in th egiven circumstances can be applied as the most exemplary in the performing of baroque compositions in which the high-register clarino trumpet is used.
