The use of the E-metric spaces in the search for fixed points

SUMMARY

We prove some general theorems on the convergence of successive approximations xn=Axn-1 to a fixed point of a nonlinear contraction mapping A defined on an E-metric space. We derive, as applications, some fixed point theorems in uniform spaces and an abstract Cauchy-Kowalewski type theorem.
