THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANKLE MORPHOLOGY AND OSTEOCHONDRITIS DISSECANS OF TALUS

SUMMARY

The purpose of this study is to describe the impact of ankle morphology to osteochondritis dissecans of talus formation. 26 patients with traumatic osteochondritis dissecans, 30 patients with non-traumatic osteochondritis dissecans and 37 patients with normal ankle as a control group included to study. Two investigators conducted measurements. We used 5 morphological parameters. We found found a significant difference in the patients with osteochondritis dissecans of medial talus. In the traumatic group the average age of the patients was 42 years and number of males 2,7 times than females. Patients of non-traumatic group older than traumatic and in contrast to traumatic group, number of females were 1,72 times than males. Age distributions and also gender distribution of the groups were significantly different from each other. Traumatic osteochondritis dissecans occurs in younger ages. It might be correlated to higher trauma incidence of males in this age group.
