SUMMARY
Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy are the most common complications that occur in 85% of pregnant women. High levels of the hormone hCG in pregnancy are thought to be the cause of nausea and vomiting that act on the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the vomiting center, namely the medulla. Researchers have recently paid special attention to complementary medicine methods for treatment. Acupressure is the development of massage therapy that goes hand in hand with the development of acupuncture. As for ways other than acupressure techniques to reduce nausea and vomiting, namely aromatherapy. The purpose of this study was to review previously published articles that present a synthesis of intervention methodology regarding the effect of pericardium acupressure and peppermint olfaction to reduce nausea and vomiting in first-trimester pregnant women. This systematic review focuses on quasi-experimental trials and RCTs assessing complementary medicine in nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. Material search methods using online databases include Google Scholar, Sage Publications, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct Taylor & Francis, and Proquest. The article is a final publication and was published in the period 2015-2020. The results of the article analysis in this study found 14 articles consisting of 8 articles on pericardial acupressure and 6 articles on peppermint olfaction. Most studies show a positive effect in reducing nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. No side effects were reported. Based on the results of this review, the two methods used were effective in reducing the incidence of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, among which pericardial acupressure and peppermint olfaction could be better recommended.Keywords: acupressure; aromatherapy; nausea; pregnant women; vomiting
