International NGOs and their contribution to overcoming poverty

SUMMARY

The peculiarities of the activities of international NGOs in the context of poverty alleviation are analyzed. It was discovered that the problem of fighting poverty was raised in native science , unlike Western, only in the 90`s of XXth century, and such studies of leading scholars were driven by objective processes in Ukrainian society. The basic approaches and strategies of NGO in mobilizing public opinion and promoting initiatives to ensure the interests of socially disadvantaged groups are defined.Special attention is paid to the activity of such poverty alleviation organization as Oxfam . The article analyzes the major projects and initiatives of this organization: opening of stores that sell goods from countries, which belong to so called “third world”, public information and promotional companies to guarantee food security, the introduction of “ Robin Hood tax “.The author pays special attention to the analysis of publications, both domestic and foreign , especially by Russian scientists, devoted to problems of consolidation of the international community in combating poverty. In particular, works of such scholars as V.Adamyk , V.Vasyutynskyy , O.Horenko , Yu.Sobolevskaya are studied.The article also characterizes existing strategies of combating poverty. It is argued that international non­governmental organizations, limited in their financial resources, cant be widely involved in them. Main challenges, facing international NGO in addressing problems of poverty, are also outlined.
