SUMMARY
Abstract. The schoolbook, as a cultural artifact, carries out an essential role in the subjectivation and individuation process of the students at school, as an anthropological space, which promotes dialogue, by interaction of the schoolbook – teacher – student, with the purpose of allowing the student to stage and project his relation with himself and with other. This process helps him not only to stablish ties of belonging but also to create an identity in the cultural imaginary as well as delimit territory. This scenario, permeated by dissonant voices, images, and symbols, leads us to delimit as the object of this study the History schoolbook in order to discuss the theme of racism as well as ways of fighting it through the following articulating axes: the discursive and ideological formation that are pervasive through the brazilian historiography. This study employs a descriptive-compared historical method, anchored in the theoretical framework of French Discourse Analysis, to understand different temporalities and the context of the researched material: cover images of literacy booklet Caminho Suave of the year 1964 and 2012 and the semiolinguistic materiality of the History schoolbook of Elementar Education of Carvalho (1973) and Holanda (1972). As an outcome, the author concludes that there is a tendency towards the homogenization of metadiscourse and the promotion of the defining sign of the nation: myth of racial democracy, whitening, miscegination, the simulacrum of naturalization, and the trivialization of racial relations.
