Abstract

Generally, the books concerning history of philosophy accept the proposition “the first principle of all things is water” that Thales said in 6th century BC as the birth of philosophical thought. What are the reasons and grounds of such an acceptance? Is to philosophise based on this acceptance a mental activity that extends from Ancient Greek to our times. Otherwise is there any possibility of philosophising differently in different cultures? All these questions are answered plainly or obscurely in the books concerning history of philosophy in Turkish. Therefore it seems possible to make relation to between our conception of philosophy and solution given for the problem of origin of philosophy by help of these answers.

Author Biography

Tufan Çötok

20 Şubat 1975’de Kütahya’da doğdu. İlk, orta ve lise eğitimini Kütahya’da tamamladı. 1998 yılında Dumlupınar Üniversitesi Fen – Edebiyat Fakültesi Sosyoloji Bölümünü bitirdi. 1999 – 2001 yılları arasında arasında aynı bölümde araştırma görevlisi, 2001-2002 yılları arasında da özel bir eğitim kurumunda Felsefe Gurubu Öğretmeni olarak çalıştı. 2002 yılında Sakarya Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Felsefe Anabilim Dalı’nda yüksek lisans eğitimine başladı. Aynı yıl Sakarya Üniversitesi Fen – Edebiyat Fakültesi Felsefe Bölümü’ne araştırma görevlisi olarak atandı ve halen bu görevini sürdürmektedir.
