Abstract

"despite their geographic, cultural and linguistic distance, it is not difficult to detect substantive convergences between the consolatory elegiac writing in the English and Chinese traditions, both of which have constituted the discourse of grief by a belief in transcendence or by impersonalization which allows the mourner to deny the finality of death and alleviate his or her sadness."
