SUMMARY
Objetivo: Analizar la relación entre prejuicio y distancia social hacia homosexuales en estudiantes universitarios paraguayos de Psicología. Método: Se recolectaron datos de 86 estudiantes de la capital y 105 estudiantes del interior del país. Se aplicó la Escala autoadministrable de Prejuicio hacia Gays y Lesbianas de García, revisada por Toro - Alfonso & Varas Díaz (2004). Resultados: Se encuentra una relación positiva entre prejuicio y distancia social, sin diferencia significativa entre estudiantes de la capital y del interior. Los niveles de prejuicio y distancia social disminuyen conforme avanza el estudiante en la carrera. Existen diferencias significativas en cuanto a religión y escolaridad. Conclusión : La homofobia está presente moderadamente en los universitarios de Psicología de la muestra paraguaya, disminuyendo a medida que es mayor el nivel de formación. Objective: Analyze the relationship between prejudice and social distance toward homosexuals in college Psychology students from Paraguay. Method: Data was collected from 86 students from La Asunción (the capital city), and 105 students from the rest of the country. Toro – Alfonso & Varas-Díaz’ (2004) revision of García’s self-applicable gay and lesbians prejudice scale was applied. Results: There is a positive relation between prejudice and social distance regardless the origin of the students. However, the levels of prejudice and social distance decrease in advanced students. There are significant differences between religion and schooling. Conclusion: Homophobia in the sample of Paraguayan university students of Psychology is moderate; however, the higher the level of education, the lower the levels of homophobia.
