The Principle of Adult Education (AE) through the Community Empowerment in Household Waste Management at Bening Saguling Foundation DOI : 10.22460/empowerment.v7i2p166-170.935

SUMMARY

Adult Education (AE) is the education which is more oriented to realistic application towards what is felt and faced in daily life. Waste problems in modern life have been very crucial concern and issues to be solved. Through the empowerment which puts forward the change of the mindset about waste from a problem into a blessing, establishment of waste management institution, strengthening management capacity through training and mentoring continuously can be one of the solutions in household waste management. The community empowerment in household waste management can increase family’s income and conserve the environment, so that the community which is independent economically and sustainable environment can occur.

El universo de estudio estuvo constituido por 202 pacientes con diagnóstico de EPOC pertenecientes a dicha área de salud. En la investigación se empleó la estadística descriptiva utilizando el porcentaje como medida resumen para las variables cualitativas y cuantitativas, respetándose los principios de la ética médica.Resultados: predominó el grupo etario de 65 y más años (53%), así como el sexo masculino (58,9%). Respecto al hábito de fumar en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (68,3%) presentaron dicho hábito. Dentro de las comorbilidades asociadas se destacaron la Hipertensión arterial (35,1%) y Diabetes mellitus (12,4%), en tanto los broncodilatadores de acción corta y esteroides orales resultaron los fármacos más empleados con 55,5% y 43,6% respectivamente.Conclusiones: la investigación enriquece el estudio científico dedicado al comportamiento clínico-epidemiológico de la enfermedad no transmisible en la comunidad, así como la planeación de estrategias dedicadas al control y prevención de la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica.ABSTRACTObjective: to characterize clinically and  epidemiologically the patients with COPD belonging to the University Polyclinic “Pedro Borrás Astorga” during the year 2017.Materials and Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the “Pedro Borrás Astorga” University Polyclinic in the city of Pinar del Río, Cuba during the year 2017. The universe of study consisted of 202 patients diagnosed with COPD belonging to that area. of health. In the research, descriptive statistics were used, using percentage as a summary measure for qualitative and quantitative variables, respecting the principles of medical ethics.Results: the age group of 65 and over (53%) prevailed, as well as the male sex (58.9%). Regarding the habit of smoking in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (68.3%) presented this habit. Among the associated comorbidities, arterial hypertension (35.1%) and diabetes mellitus (12.4%) stood out, while shortacting bronchodilators and oral steroids were the most used drugs with 55.5% and 43.6%. % respectively.Conclusions: the research enriches the scientific study dedicated to the clinical-epidemiological behavior of the noncommunicable disease in the community, as well as the planning of strategies dedicated to the controland prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Keywords: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease; clinical-epidemiological; Primary health care.
